Abstract:
Problems of the involvement of molecular complexes of oxygen with variable-valence metal compounds in the liquid-phase oxidation of organic compounds, including the chain initiation reactions in radical chain oxidation, via the interaction of such complexes with the hydrocarbon are considered. The possibility of the operation of mechanisms resembling those of enzymic oxidation is analysed. Despite the lack in many instances of unambiguous evidence for the occurrence of the oxidation reaction via a mono- or di-oxygenase mechanism, one can assume that the reaction conditions and mechanisms in many chemical systems are close to those in biological systems.
