Abstract: An analysis is made of the feasibility of developing an atomic collisional gas-discharge laser utilizing a transition between levels one of which is unexcited. Several binary atomic gas mixtures suitable for such an investigation are proposed. Numerical estimates are made of the population inversion under conditions characteristic of a glow discharge
