Abstract:
It is predicted theoretically that mode locking may be achieved by inserting a stimulated Raman scattering-active medium into the resonator of a multimode laser. It is shown that the Ramanactive medium plays the part of a passive frequency modulator in this process. The existence of two mechanisms of pulse frequency sweeping and locking bistability is determined.
