Abstract: β-Cyclodextrin-stabilized Cu nanoparticles were prepared from CuSO4⋅5H2O using sodium hydroxymethanesulfinate (rongalite) as the reducing agent and β-cyclodextrin as the stabilizing agent. This nanocatalyst showed good catalytic activities in the C–O coupling of phenols with 2-bromopyridine providing 2-aryloxypyridines in moderate to good yields. The catalyst can be recovered and reused five times with slight decrease in its activity.
Keywords: C–O coupling, copper nanoparticles, 2-aryloxypyridines, rongalite, β-cyclodextrin.
