Abstract: A simple and convenient synthesis of new isoquinolinone derivatives based on N-(homoveratryl)succinimide phosphorus ylide and natural aldehydes is suggested. The final formation of the tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline framework occurs via the Pictet–Spengler cyclization.
