Mean field method in the theory of quadrupolar glass with axial interaction of infinite range
M. I. Vladimir, S. P. Koshukar', V. A. Moskalenko
Abstract:
Average number of metastable states as a function of temperature is calculated
a model with infinitely long range axial interaction of quadrupolar systems on the basis
of the principle of stationarity of free energy. A self-consistent system of equations
for the ordering parameters is obtained, the solution of which in the regions near the
temperature of the transition into the quadrupolar glass phase and orientationally ordered
phase as well as at low temperatures shows that the existence of the gradient of the
external electric field can lead not only to the formation of the quadrupolar glass phase
but also to the formation of mixed ferro- and antiferro-quadrupolar phases.
