Kondo interaction and strongly correlated electrons

Abstract:
A study is made of a system of strongly correlated electrons that are localized on a lattice and coupled to the free electrons by the 4-fermion interaction proposed by Kondo. A realistic Hamiltonian is constructed in the basis of atomic operators of the superalgebra spl(8;8). A scheme is proposed for calculating the spectrum of Fermi excitations with respect to a small parameter, which is the hopping integral made dimensionless by intraatomic correlations. The static spin susceptibility is calculated as a function of the temperature and concentration of the electrons and is found to be in agreement with the experimental susceptibility for several narrow-band organometallic compounds. The nonphonon kinematic mechanism is used to estimate the possibility of superconducting pairing in the proposed model, and Tc and the corresponding critical electron concentration in one of the correlated bands are calculated.
