Abstract:
In this paper, the response of the extratropical troposphere to the polar stratosphere temperature decrease,
accompanied by the polar vortex strengthening, is investigated. For this purpose, we use a spectral
general circulation model with zonally-symmetric boundary conditions on the surface and a heat source given
analytically.
