Abstract:
Indium iodides have been studied for more than a century, the focus of scientific interest being shifted from inorganic compounds, components of fluorescent metal halide lamps, to complexes and (in the current century) organoindium compounds. The review surveys the properties of individual iodides, phase diagrams of systems involving $\mathrm{InI}_3$, $\mathrm{InI}_2$ and $\mathrm{InI}$, structural data and complex compounds of indium iodide. Some discrepancies in the published data are noted. The existence of new compounds that are yet to be described is predicted. Indium monoiodide and its derivatives are of interest as materials for radiation detectors and infrared photonics. The physical and chemical problems of application of indium iodides in metal halide lamps are considered. A detailed review of patents on this topic is given. Chemical reactions involving indium iodides that are used in organic synthesis and the types of organoindium compounds thus formed are discussed.
