Abstract: Data on the chemisorption of oxygen on a number of metals (Pt, Pd, Ir, Ru, Ni, etc.), obtained by SED, EAS, XES, etc., have been reviewed. The bond energies and principal properties of the two types of Oads on metals (non-reconstructive and reconstructive), and also the conditions for the realisation of each type of adsorption, have been examined.
