The Study of Heterogeneous Catalysts by the EXAFS Method

D. I. Kochubey

Institute of Catalysis Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk
Abstract: The principles of the EXAFS method, which makes it possible to determine the structure of the local environment of a chemical element being studied within a radius of 4 Å, are described. Information on the experimental apparatus, the fields of application, and the accuracy of the determination of the structural parameters (interatomic distances, coordination numbers, Debye–Waller factors) are given. Examples of the use of the method to study catalysts are described.
