Abstract: The use of modern NMR Fourier spectrometers to study heterogeneous catalysts and molecules adsorbed on their surface has been examined. Data obtained in the study of vanadium catalysts for the oxidation of sulphur dioxide; the state of aluminium and silicon in aluminium and silicon oxides and in zeolites; hydroxide groups; and platinum in deposited platinum catalysts, and also the first data on the 17O NMR of oxide catalysts, have been summarised. The results of the study of adsorbed molecules, including the use of the high-resolution NMR spectroscopy of solids, have been discussed.
