Abstract: The dilatant regime in the flow of dispersions under the constrained conditions of the interaction of colloidal particles resistant to aggregation is discussed. In this case the system behaves as a dilatant periodic colloidal structure of the second type with a limited volume of the medium (PCS2) in which a positive disjoining pressure π2 > 0 operates. The similarity in the dilatant behaviour of dispersed systems and structured solutions of surfactants and polymers is demonstrated. With increased concentration of ions (and also of particle size), the dilatant regime passes into an anomalously viscous (thixotropic regime), i.e. under these conditions the dilatant PCS2 is converted into a thixotropic PCS1 (of the first type) in which π1 < 0.
