Abstract:
Theoretical and experimental data for the degradation of polymers under the influence of mechanical stresses are surveyed from the standpoints of chemical physics. Kinetic models for the bulk-phase breakdown of polymers are examined and an approach is formulated to the prediction of the lifetime of articles made from polymeric materials. The bibliography includes 123 references.
