Abstract: The literature data on the methods for the synthesis of unstable intermediate species (arynes and carbenes) from organoelement compounds, mainly from o- and α-halogeno-derivatives, are surveyed and examined critically. It is shown that the ease of decomposition of the initial compound is determined by the possibility of the formation in the transition state of the coordinate bond between the groups or atoms eliminated and the theoretical proof of this mechanism is given.
