Abstract: The current data on the intermolecular photochemical reduction of aromatic nitro-compounds under various conditions are considered and the mechanism of the primary stage of the photoprocess in neutral, acid, and basic media is discussed. The dependence of the photochemical reactivity of nitro-compounds on the characteristics of the structure of their excited state is examined.
