The reactions of polycarboxylic acid o-dinitriles with aromatic diamines

Experimental data on the interaction of phthalodinitriles and bis(phthalodinitriles) with aromatic diamines are surveyed. The dependence of the mechanism of the reaction of phthalodinitriles with diamines on the structure of the diamines and the phthalodinitriles as well as the nature of the reaction medium is examined and general ideas concerning the mechanism of this reaction are formulated. The principal features of the polycondensation of bis(phthalodinitriles) with diamines are specified and the possibility of using this reaction to obtain a series of new classes of heterocyclic polymers with benzopyrrole fragments in the chain is demonstrated.
