Abstract: The reaction pathways leading to the degradation of the carbon chain in the liquid-phase oxidation reactions of saturated hydrocarbons and their oxigen-containing derivatives are examined. The relative importance of the pathways and their dependence on the structure of the substrate and of the oxidation conditions are discussed. The bibliography includes 151 references.
