Fianite (ZrO2–Y2O3:Er3+) laser emitting the 3-μm range

Abstract:
Lasing as a result of the 3-μm 4I11/2–4I13/2 transition in erbium was observed at room temperature in a fianite (ZrO2–Y2O3:Er3+) crystal. The active level lifetimes were measured and pulse-periodic operation at frequencies up to 100 Hz was achieved.
