Abstract:
A numerical investigation was made of the enhancement of the transmission of a light beam through an aqueous aerosol under conditions of thermal self-interaction. It was found, on the basis of a solution of a self-consistent problem, that for certain parameters the diffraction by an aerosol aperture can lead to an increase in the peak intensity. Allowance for the effect of molecular absorption on the self-interaction in the enhanced-transmission channel predicted additional defocusing of the beam which reduced the enhancement efficiency.
