Method for measuring losses due to absorption in nonlinear crystals

P. G. Konvisar, S. R. Rustamov, A. A. Fomichev
Abstract: A new method is suggested for measuring the losses due to absorption in nonlinear crystals capable of generating second harmonics under 90° phase-matching conditions. The method is based on the determination of the difference between the temperature at the center of a crystal (where the laser radiation is concentrated) and on its lateral surface. The temperature at the center is deduced from the generation of the second harmonic.
