Investigation and determination of the optimal characteristics of a thin-film LiNbO3 electrooptic modulator

Abstract:
A calculation is made of the optical and electric fields in a thin-film modulator and the dependence of the modulation efficiency on the control voltage is determined. The theoretical results are shown to be in good agreement with experiment. The optimal values of the waveguide thickness and the electrode period are determined for various modes.
