Characteristics of stimulated emission from an actively Q-switched neodymium-glass laser controlled by an external signal

I. G. Zubarev, S. I. Mikhaĭlov
Abstract: A study is made of the influence of an external signal on the residual free emission of a controlled laser with an inhomogeneously broadened gain line. There is no locking threshold characterized by a basic change in the operation regime at some particular intensity of the external signal: an increase in this intensity results in a smooth reduction in the power of the residual free emission. Nevertheless, the resultant distribution of the energy between narrow-band stimulated emission and noise is fully satisfactory for many practical applications.
