Influence of the active-medium gain and of mirror surface distortions in an unstable cavity on multimode lasing

Abstract: An analysis is made of a self-consistent problem of steady lasing resulting in the emission of a few transverse modes in an unstable cavity with mirror distortions and a saturable active medium. Calculations are reported of the parameters of multimode lasing in a locally saturable active medium as a function of the small-signal gain and small-scale quasiperiodic mirror distortions. Distributions of the radiation energy between the lasing modes and the characteristics of these modes are given.
