Physical processes in active media

Formation of steady-state high-power shock radiation pulses in resonantly amplifying media

V. D. Taranukhin
Abstract: A theory is developed for the amplification of high-power radiation pulses in resonant media allowing for the optical Stark effect and induced line broadening. It is predicted that steady-state radiation pulses having a steep leading edge will be formed in long amplifiers and that these pulses will be stable with respect to large-scale and small-scale transverse perturbations.
