Abstract:
A study is made of the conditions ensuring suppression of accidental emission of radiation and attainment of the contrast required in laser controlled thermonuclear fusion. The results are used to propose the following recommendations for coupling the energy out of high-power H2–F2 amplifiers of short light pulses: (a) the coupling out should be performed using opposite light fluxes, because this makes it possible to reduce greatly the required intensity of the input radiation; (b) the emission spectrum of a master oscillator should include lines with rotational numbers J ≥ 9. It is also shown that in H2–F2 amplifiers of interest in laser fusion the intensity of the input light signal ensuring suppression of superradiance and parasitic lasing is sufficient for practically complete coupling of energy out of the active medium.
