Method for sorting of microspheres used in laser thermonuclear fusion

V. S. Drozhzhin, V. P. Chudinov
Abstract: The characteristics of glass microshell targets for laser fusion were used to develop a technological system for efficient selection of high-quality microspheres wtihout manual handling. This system was tested by selecting microshells with the aspect ratio d /t ≈ 100. The fractions obtained consisted of microshells satisfying the laser fusion requirements in respect of the diameter and wall thickness and the average scatter of the wall thickness was about 8%.
