Measurements of the absolute luminescence quantum efficiency of mixtures of Cl$_2$ with
Ar, Kr, and Xe excited by vacuum ultraviolet radiation
V. S. Zuev, A. V. Kanaev, L. D. Mikheev
Abstract:
Measurements were made of the absolute quantum efficiencies of luminescence from Cl$_2^{**}$ ($\lambda\lesssim 200$ nm), Cl$_2^*$ ($\lambda\approx258$ nm), KrCl$^*$ ($\lambda\approx222$ nm), and XeCl$^*$ ($\lambda\approx308$ nm) when Cl$_2$ and mixtures of Cl$_2$ with Ar, Kr, and Xe, respectively were excited by vacuum ultraviolet radiation. The excitation spectra were obtained, and the constants of the photochemical reactions taking place in these mixtures were determined. It is shown that in principle, it is possible to use these compounds to develop optically pumped lasers having an internal quantum efficiency close to 1.
