Abstract:
Measurements were made of the absolute quantum efficiencies of luminescence from Cl∗∗2 (λ≲200 nm), Cl∗2 (λ≈258 nm), KrCl∗ (λ≈222 nm), and XeCl∗ (λ≈308 nm) when Cl2 and mixtures of Cl2 with Ar, Kr, and Xe, respectively were excited by vacuum ultraviolet radiation. The excitation spectra were obtained, and the constants of the photochemical reactions taking place in these mixtures were determined. It is shown that in principle, it is possible to use these compounds to develop optically pumped lasers having an internal quantum efficiency close to 1.
