Feasibility of lasing as a result of chemical radiative collisions

Abstract: An analysis is made of the feasibility of using chemical radiative collisions R $+$ X$_2\hbar\nu\to$ RX $+$ X$^*$ for the establishment of a population inversion. It is shown that the gain for the Xe $+$ Cl$_2$ system may be considerably greater than 0.1 m$^{-1}$ when a source with a brightness temperature of $3\times10^4$ K is used. An analysis is made of the composition dependences of the gain.
