Laser plasmatron

M. V. Gerasimenko, G. I. Kozlov, V. A. Kuznetsov
Abstract: An experimental study was made of an optical discharge in the laser plasmatron regime, burning in the focused beam of a high-power cw CO2 laser. The ranges of existence of a steady-state optical discharge and the mechanism for maintaining it were determined. The occurrence of a minimum of the discharge-wave velocity along the beam was established. A theoretical explanation is given of the results obtained.
