Nikolai A. Sobolev is currently a Professor Jubilado at the Department of Physics, University of Aveiro, Portugal, continuing to do active research at the DP and i3N Associate Laboratory. He received the MS and Dr. rer. nat. degrees in Physics from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany. He worked as a Scientist and Professor in the Soviet Union, Belarus, Germany and Portugal. He held Visiting Professor and Invited Scientist positions at the Technical Universities of Berlin, Moscow and Gdansk, and the Universities of Jena and Ulm. N.A.S. is the author / co-author of more than 200 research papers, four book chapters and seven USSR / Russian Federation patents. His book chapter “Radiation Effects in Quantum Dot Structures” (DOI: 10.1016/B978-0-08-046325-4.00013-X) has more than 1,600 reads on ResearchGate. N.A.S. has been active in the fields of ion implantation, nuclear transmutation doping, defects in solids and quantum-size structures, quantum dots, magnetic doping in semiconductors, magnetic nanostructures, electron magnetic resonance, optical spectroscopy, multiferroics, and memristors. During his work in Aveiro, N.A.S. supervised / co-supervised six successful PhD projects and multiple MS theses. He has coordinated several national and international research projects. Quite recently he has finished, as a coordinator, the 5.5-year European project SPINMULTIFILM. N.A.S. is a member of the editorial boards of ten scientific journals. He was chairman, scientific secretary, and member of the committees of more than 50 international and national conferences and schools. N.A.S. (co)edited seven Special issues / Topical sections in various journals. He is an active reviewer for various journals. e.g., Appl. Phys. Lett., Nanotechnology, Small.
