Biography

Dr. Ivan Bassov (Ivan Basov) is a Russian-Israeli-American scientist and inventor in the field of computer science and computing machinery. He is best known as an innovator and visionary in data storage, holding more than 80 granted patents related to this field.

For over 20 years, Dr. Bassov worked at Dell Corporation as a leading engineer and software systems architect. As of 2024, he is employed at Oracle Corporation, specializing in cloud technologies, file systems, and data protection.

Dr. Bassov holds a PhD, as well as MBA, MSE, and BSc degrees from Israeli and American universities. He is also a Six Sigma Black Belt Specialist. He has invented, patented, and implemented numerous technologies related to cloud storage systems, file systems, backup, recovery, compression, and data deduplication.

Additionally, Dr. Bassov is a reviewer for scientific journals such as IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Computers.

From 1991 to 1995, he studied Informatics and Computing Machinery at the Department of Radio Electronics and Informatics at Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University named after P. A. Solovyov. In 1994, he was awarded the Certificate of Honor from the Governor of the Yaroslavl Oblast "for excellent success in studies and active participation in scientific work."

In 1998, he graduated with honors from the University of Haifa with a degree in mathematics. In 2001, at the invitation of EMC Corporation (later acquired by Dell), he moved with his family to Boston, USA, where he combined work with studying for his master's and doctoral degrees.

His doctoral dissertation, "Approximation Algorithms for a Class of Resource-Constrained Network Optimization Problems," focuses on developing a mathematical model that encompasses a class of weakly NP-hard graph optimization problems with multiple parameters. This model unified disparate results into a single theory and provided approximation algorithms with performance guarantees for all problems in the wide class.
