Abstract: The new coordination polymer {[Cd2(bptc)(H2O)6]·2H2O}n, where H4bptc is 3,3′,5,5′-biphenyltetracarboxylate, has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized. In this complex, bptc4− as tridentate ligands connect the Cd2+ cations to form a chiral 2D layer, which crystallizes in the ortho-rhombic chiral space group C222. The compound exhibits the properties of luminescence sensor for organic molecules.
