One of the more intriguing scientific puzzles over the last 35 years has to do with the
mystery of dark matter. This is where the known mass in a galaxy is not sufficient to keep the galaxy from dissipating. But, despite significant efforts, the needed mass, the dark matter, has not been found! As described during this lecture, a crucial part of this scientific puzzle has nothing to do with astronomy; it is strictly a mathematical issue. Surprising new conclusions about this concern arise from the mathematics: some of which are described in this talk.
