Stability of scalar fields with complex masses in curved backgrounds

In my talk I will consider scalar fields with complex masses in curved backgrounds. Such fields arise in field theories with higher (and especially infinite) derivatives and their presence is currently under an active study. In my talk I will show certain constraints on the background metrics when these strange new fields do not feature growing modes. A connection with quantization and unitarity of the models will be discussed as well.
