The monotonicity method in the study of nonlinear differential equations: the existence of solutions of elliptic nonlinear equations with monotone operators.

The talk presents the classical results on the solvability of operator equations with a monotone operator. The types of monotone operators and their important properties are considered. Examples of operators in Sobolev spaces are given.
