Abstract:
180 years ago, on January 24 (February 5, n.st.), the famous scientist Yulian Karol (Yulian Vasilyevich) Sochocki was born in Warsaw, who devoted his whole life to science and teaching at St. Petersburg University and the Institute of Civil Engineers (now SPbGASU), 190th anniversary which is celebrated this year. It is noteworthy that Yu.V. Sochocki was the first professor of mathematics at the Institute of Civil Engineers. His lecture courses on various areas of higher mathematics have been preserved, the textbook "Higher Algebra" has been published in 2 parts. The report gives a brief overview of the scientific and pedagogical activities of Yu.V. Sochocki. His research on number theory is considered in more detail.
