The report focuses on the history of the formation of a professional mathematics education in Irkutsk. This process took place against a background of turbulent historical events in Russia in the first half of the 20th century. The First World War, the Civil War, the establishment of the Soviet regime and the repression, the Great Patriotic War had a significant influence on the formation of mathematical education. At this time in Irkutsk the first institutions of higher education were founded, first professors of mathematics appeared, first textbooks and collections of scientific papers have been published.
