Abstract:
The report times to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Osip (Joseph) Ivanovich Somov (1815-1876), professor of the Imperial St. Petersburg State University. The report provides some information on the activities of O.I. Somov in St. PetersburgUniversity (career stages, the main courses, which he read). In the main part of the report, the visual tutorials (posters) of the 19th century presented. Today they are stored in the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg University and recorded as "Somov's posters". Museum staff argue that O.I. Somov used these posters in their pedagogic activities at the university. Hinge mechanisms were attached to these cardboard posters. The kinematic links (from paperboard) may describe a given motion (eg, linear motion: Hart mechanism, Kempe mechanism, Darboux hinge mechanism for the rectilinear movement etc.). The report will present photos and videos. We discuss the modern view of the use these benefits as a subject for student computer animations.
