Biography

A.N. Lykov graduated from Physics Department of Moscow State University (1966–1972). Specialized in Experimental Physics with special emphasis on Low Temperature Physics. Master Thesis (1972): "EPR of n-Si in the temperature range 0.5–4.2K"

In the research staff of P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences since 1974. From 1975 to present time — Head of Superconducting Microelectronic Group in staff of Superconductivity Laboratory. From 1995 to present time — head scientist; 1980: Received PhD (Candidate of Physical-Mathematical Sciences) from P.N.Lebedev Physical Institute RAS. PhD Thesis(1980): "Superconducting thin-film bridges made of A-15 compounds." 1993: Received Doctor of Sciences from Moscow State University. (Doctor of Sciences is the second and highest degree in Russia required for full Professorship) Doctor of science Thesis(1993): "Mixed state in superconducting microstructures".

Main field of specialization is experimental theoretical studies of physical processes in superconductors and superconducting devices.

Main scientific achievements

  • boundary conditions to the Ginzburg–Landau equations are found to limit the critical temperature of high-Tc superconductors, as a result, to increase Tc of cuprate superconductors, the number of CuO2 planes that are within a short distance of each other in unit cell should be increased under optimal doping;
  • numerical method based on self-consistent solutions of the Ginzburg–Landau system of nonlinear equations is developed to analyze the critical state of superconducting multilayers;
  • developed new device conception using superconductors in electronics, designed some types of electromagnetic generator which were based on coherent vortex motion in superconducting structures;
  • modified Anderson theory to explain the features of the flux creep in high-Tc superconductors by using well-known equations of the flux dynamics and traditional ideas of the theory of the mixed state, and developed a computer program to estimate main parameters of the pinning centres in high-Tc superconductors;
  • found Josephson effects in the superconducting thin-film bridges made of A15 compounds, and proved that flux pinning and creep have an effect upon the properties of these bridges.

A.N. Lykov is the author of 85 papers in refereed journals and 5 inventions.

Scientific advisors of 3 PhD Thesis.
