Biography

I, Lavrenti Aghasi Matevosyan, was born in 1938, Geghasar (former Tapanlu) Village, Lori (former Spitak) District, the Republic of Armenia. I finished the 7th form of local school and then went to the neighboring secondary school No 45 of the local Railroad stattion, Shirakamut (former Nalband) Village, in 1952. When in 8-10th forms, I would take part at mathematical Olympiads of Railroad Schools, Transcaucasia, and won a first order diploma. In 1955 I entered the Department of Physics and Mathematics, Yerevan State University, Armenia. I graduated from the university and was pointed as an assistant at the same Department by the decision of the Department’s Scientific Council. In 1963-1966 I studied a specified postgraduate course, Kazan University, USSR, specializing in geometry and topology, under the scientific advisor-ship of Norden A. P. Since then I was back to Yerevan State University and have been working at the former Department up today. I became a PhD in 1968 and was pointed a docent in 1976. In 1974-1979 I was the head of the Chair of Algebra and Geometry. In 1968-1991 I was a vice dean of the Department (with breaks, the last period in 1984-1991). I have had 20 scientific paper. I have been an advisor term papers, diplomas and post graduate students. One of my students defended his Ph.D. thesis, “Chebishev Nets and Chebishev Clusters of Surfaces” in 2009 and now is working at the above-mentiond chair as a docent. In 1990 I was the head of the selection committee of the entering examinations of the Yerevan State University and in 2004 that of the universities of Yerevan.

I have been editing school and university geometry textbooks. I have been running the Yerevan State University correspondence school of mathematics for many years. I had been the head of Vanadzor Town Armenian state Pedagogical University’s selection examination committee for a few times, as well as the head of the school finishing medal distribution committee.

I have been lecturing at the Department of Mathematics of Yerevan State University on number theory, analytical geometry, differential geometry, as well as on affine spaces and Riemann spaces, tensor algebra, tensor analysis etc. I have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren.
