At present, the institute (Beijing headquarters) has set up nine research divisions: The division of the Earth’s Deep Structure and Process, The Division of Lithosphere Evolution, The Division of Tibet (Qinghai-Xizang) Plateau, The Division of Cenozoic Geology and Environment, The Eivision of Electromagnetics and Space Physics, The Division of Engineering Geology and Water Resources, The Division of Oil and Gas resources, and the Division of Solid Mineral Resources, one national key lab: The Key Lab of Lithosphere Evolution, and two CAS’s key labs: The Key Lab of Mineral Resources and the Key Lab of Engineering Geomechanics. In 2007 the institute was approved to set up Beijing National Field Observation and Research Station of Space Environment. Also, the institute has three innovation groups identified by the National Nature Science Foundation, which are formed around the following three research directions: geomagnetic field and the outer core of the Earth’s dynamics, the petrologic process of subduction-collision orogeny, and the deep structures of the uplift area in the east of Tibet Plateau and their surface process response.
