The National Defense University (NDU) was established one hundred and three years ago. It was first called the Army Officer School, founded by the Qing Dynasty. The school then changed its name to the Army War Coolege in 1911. After 11949, it moved along with the goverment of the Republic of China (ROC), from the Mainland to Taiwan , and was relocated in Hsin-chu County. Following reorganization and expansion in 2000, the school has employed National Defense University as its official title. The NDU, over its history, has been renamed nine times and has reloacted eleven times. Since August 2007, the school has been in the current location of Bade, Tao-yuan.
