Universidad de Buenos Aires, ArgentinaThe Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) is the largest university in Argentina, founded on August 12, 1821 in the city of Buenos Aires. It consists of 13 faculties, six hospitals, 10 museums and three high schools: Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini, and Instituto Libre de Segunda Enseñanza.

To enter the university in all of the available courses of studies, students who have finished high school must pass a first year common to all faculties. This first year is called "CBC", which stands for: "Ciclo Básico Común" (Common Basic Cycle). Only upon completion of this first year may the student enter the requested faculty; until then, they must attend courses in different buildings, and have up to 3 years to finish the 6 subjects (which vary depending on the course of studies chosen) assigned in two groups of 3. Each subject has a one term (march-July or august-November) length; So theoretically should someone pass all 6 subjects in their respective terms of three, the CBC would take only one year.

Given its size, the UBA has no central campus. Plans existed for a centralized Ciudad Universitaria ("university city") that was started and currently holds only 2 schools with all other schools dispersed throughout the city.
