The Military University of Technology is the leading engineering university and research centre in Poland. With over six thousand students served by over seven hundred professors and instructors, WAT is one of the largest military universities in Central and Eastern Europe. WAT is an unique university which combines university level education with military training; it is a place where civilian and military students study and live together in one community.

Military University of Technology was founded in 1951. Its primary mission was to develop undergraduate studies preparing officers for technical services of Polish Armed Forces. Increasing number of academic staff, development of graduate and postgraduate studies, increasing level of scientific research caused, that in the years 1956-1965 MUT gradually transformed into military technical university. In that time, such achievements, like construction of the first polish lasers, created scientific reputation of the University. For the next 30 years MUT was the largest military university and the leading research centre in military technology in Poland.
