The University of Mohaghegh – Ardabili was initially established as Ardabil junior college of Agriculture 1978 and was affiliated with the university of Tabriz with a student enrollment of 30 pursuing a degree in Agriculture.

Despite its modest beginning, the university underwent comprehensive structural and organizational changes within a relatively short period of time.
