Šiauliai University was founded in 1997 after the reconstruction of Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and the Šiauliai Polytechnical Faculty of Kaunas University of Technology.

History: 1948 — Teacher's Institute (duration of studies — two years), since 1954 — Pedagogical Institute. 1959 — Affiliate of Kaunas Polytechnical Institute, since 1990 — Šiauliai Polytechnical Faculty of Kaunas University of Technology.

Type: It is a university of a classical type.

Faculties of: Education, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics and Informatics, Arts, Social Sciences, Special Education, and Technology. Also there is the Institute of Continuing Studies.
