The International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) (Trieste, Italy) plans to open its branch in the Gomel State Technical University. Deputy President of the University Stanislav Prokopenko said that the branch will become the first scientific establishment of such kind in Central and Eastern Europe.

The ICTP operates under the aegis of the UN and the IAEA. One of the main objectives of the center is to foster the growth of advanced studies and research in different countries. The branch's status as the ICTP partner will let Belarusian scientists take part in research, and to take probation courses in leading scientific labs of Italy.
