  • L. V. Kirensky Institute of Physics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Krasnoyarsk, RussiaEstablished in 1956.

    Main fields of activities:

  • physics and magnetic phenomena and magnetic materials
  • condensed matter physics and materials for electronics
  • design and engineering of new active elements, components and devices for modern radio-, acousto- opto- and quantum electronics
  • training of higher level material science specialists.

  • In 2002, the institute had a total staff of 367, that includes 144 scientists, one Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, one corresponding member of the same Academy, 31 held Dr. Sci. and 79 - Ph. D. degrees.

Applied researches in the Institute include:
  • prognosis and synthesis of new materials for electronics and optics
  • design and development of new devices
  • components and elements based upon these materials.

  • In the material science, the main trend is in single-crystal group growth from a flux-melt, single-crystal growth from a solution, and vacuum and plasma-ion sputtering and molecular beam epitaxy of thin magnetic films and magnetic nanostructures.

This has led to the production of crystals and glasses for UHF, microwave and optical devices, including electro , magneto-, acousto- and nonlinear optics, and of magnetic and magneto-optic discs for information recording and storage.
