IDR/UPM, Instituto Universitario de Microgravedad "Ignacio Da Riva" is an Institute of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for R&D activities in the field of space science, microgravity and engineering. IDR/UPM facilities in the aeronautical field consist of several wind tunnels for measuring wind loads on buildings and for calibrating anemometers plus computing facilities for predicting the wind loads with simulation codes. The activities at IDR/UPM date back to the early 70s when, headed by the late Prof. Ignacio da Riva (1930-1991) a group of professors started investigations on the behaviour of liquids under reduced gravity conditions and on spacecraft thermal control technology. Today, IDR/UPM has a stable staff of more than 25 people (including Ph.D.s, engineers and technicians) plus a variable number of collaborators from the UPM that join the team for specific tasks.
